SEA STAR INITIATIVE
Our Programs
Parent and Child Classes
for Ages 3 and Younger

In a wholesome and beautiful
environment our parent and child
classes provide a safe place of
support, friendship, learning, and
community for parents.  Gentle
guidance received through an
established rhythm provides the
opportunity for children and parents
to experience the joy of
harmoniously working and playing
together through simple crafting to
partner games, finger play and
singing. The calm and flowing
rhythm also provides the children
with ample opportunities for safe
exploration with natural toys and
materials that encourage strong
healthy self initiated play and
discovery. A healthy snack is
graciously shared. Come and
experience a genuine class that
nourishes the child as well as the
parent and truly enriches family life
within.  Parent and Child classes
are held weekly for children under
the age of three with an adult.
Arts Enrichment Program for Children of First & Second Grade Age

During the second stage of childhood, from the age of six or seven until around the age of 14,
is a time when feelings are of primary importance to children. Through their responses to
experience, they begin to understand the world. Our programs follow a Waldorf curriculum and
offer a full spectrum of academic subjects that are taught not only intellectually but
experientially and artistically as well. The children’s journey of learning and self-discovery is
guided by Waldorf-trained teachers who consider each child’s abilities and challenges
individually. The distinguishing feature of Waldorf education is its academic and artistic depth.
The subjects come alive in an atmosphere of engaged learning, guiding the children to find
meaning and purpose in everything they learn, allowing themselves to immerse completely in
the subject matter.  This relevancy is the key to remarkable students, and exceptional human
beings.

Literacy and mathematics are supported through the integration of a rich arts program that
includes movement and circle activity, form drawing, watercolor painting, knitting, and music to
include singing, recorder, speech, and drama.  Foreign language and Eurythmy, an art in
which the child’s whole body is engaged, and speech and songs are expressed through
creative movement, are also an essential part of our programs.

Early Childhood Programs for Ages 3 to 6

During the first stage of childhood children are learning and
experiencing the world primarily through physical activity. The
nurturing environment and daily gentle rhythm of the early childhood
programs at Sea Star provide plenty of opportunity for children to
learn and engage meaningfully through purposeful work, exploration
and creative free play.  Children are engaged through purposeful work
such as grinding wheat, kneading bread, chopping vegetables,
gardening, sewing, and simple wood working.  Every morning the
children gather in circle for finger plays, movement, song, versus and
rhymes to inspire a love of language and develop fine and gross
motor skills.  Mid-morning, a wholesome, organic snack is shared at a
beautifully set table. Daily free play, indoors and outdoors, supports
each child to trust their initiative, inspiration, and ability to solve
problems as they create worlds with their imaginations while
connecting to each other and with nature.  An artistic activity such as
crayoning, water coloring, beeswax modeling and Eurythmy is woven
into each day. The morning draws to a close with the teacher telling a
story, a time for listening and quiet reflection. Stories are told from
memory, and special attention is paid to the words chosen and
pronunciation, to fully engage the children’s imaginations.
Sequencing, sensory integration, eye-hand coordination, appreciating
the beauty of language and other basic skills necessary for the
foundation of academic excellence are fostered in this truly natural,
loving and creative environment.
